Newsletter to Members – July 2021

Hello Everyone,

Well, here we are still awaiting confirmation of the final stage of reopening which the Government have now stated is expected to go ahead on Monday 19th July despite cases rising across the country, indeed the rate per 100,000 people in York has gone from 20 to 425 over the past four weeks. We do hope everyone is keeping safe and remaining upbeat. It seems a long time since we were able to consider restarting the group and subject to what happens in the coming weeks, we can confirm it is our intention to recommence meetings in September still at St Aelred’s Community Centre on Fifth Avenue.
Provisional dates all starting from 10.00 am are
Thursday 16th September Welcome Back
Thursday 21st October Catherine Sothern – York in Close up
Thursday 18th November Talk by Malcolm Brook
Thursday 16th December AGM, Quiz and Raffle

Though the Government has stated its intention to remove the legal requirement to wear face masks and to remove social distancing requirements it may well be that organisations adopt their own policy on this and once we have confirmation from St Aelreds we will let everyone know the situation in respect of this.

One thing the country does seem to have got right is the vaccination programme and hopefully by the time we resume most people will be double jabbed, this of course doesn’t mean the virus has gone away and we must be vigilant in ensuring our members are aware of the ongoing risks even with full vaccination.

We are aware that despite restrictions being removed many people remain very cautious and we appreciate this, anyone who doesn’t feel safe should use their own judgement in respect of attendance.

Unless cases spiral out of control then our intention is to follow the restart plan as indicated above, if things change to prevent this then we will contact you to let you know the outcome.
